Setting up your email on a BlackBerry

blackberry

This guide was created using a BlackBerry Z10. We will be setting up your mail account using the built in Mail app.

Add the account

  1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings > Accounts >  Add Account.
  3. Enter your email address and password

You will get a message saying that the email provider may not be trustworthy. This is because the Websavers server isn’t reporting its certificates as matching ‘mail.yourdomain.com’ (instead they match *.websavers.ca) and is nothing to be concerned about. You will still be making a secure connection.

If you get an option to choose the type of account, be sure to select IMAP.

Edit the configuration

Your BlackBerry OS autoconfigures the account, but may not find the optimal configuration. Make the following changes to ensure everything works smoothly:

  1. If your BlackBerry isn’t showing you your new account settings, tap on the newly added account to edit the configuration
  2. Be sure your username is set to your full email address such as john@redlightbulbs.com, not just “john”

Inbound Settings

These should already be correct, but you can double check to be sure:

  1. Server address: Your server hostname (this is shown in the Websavers Client Centre after you click “Manage” on your domain). Note that you can also use mail.yourdomain.com (ex: mail.websavers.ca), however you will get security warnings occasionally.
  2. port: 143
  3. Encryption: TLS or StartTLS

SMTP (Outbound Settings)

These you will need to adjust.

  1. SMTP Encryption: StartTLS
  2. Server address: Your server hostname (this is shown in the Websavers Client Centre after you click “Manage” on your domain). Note that you can also use mail.yourdomain.com (ex: mail.websavers.ca), however you will get security warnings occasionally.
  3. port: 587

Use Push if Supported -> YES

That’s it! You should be able to send and receive mail successfully.

At the end of configuring my Q 10, according to your details above, the reply is that the server is not responding, viz via mail.northheadbakery.ca – in my attempt to get a new email going: richardbakergrandmanan@northheadbakery.ca.Worked on this repeatedly; no cigar, and would appreciate any suggestion, for which I offer advance thanks. Richard

      Hey Richard,

It’s possible your IP was blacklisted during configuration. Try connecting to WiFi if you were previously on LTE, or vice versa so that you get a new IP address and restart the device. If that fails, please send us a screenshot of the current configuration via “Ask an Expert” in our Client Centre and we’ll check the logs to see what’s up!
